don't be different

Two Saturdays and a Sunday....

So back on (Saturday) May 28th, the 21deadmonkeys crew (plus a few) went up to the Token Lounge for a show. We showed up late (as always), but it didn't seem to matter much. Mysterious Matt Wixson was up on stage rockin' it solo acoustic style. I'm pretty sure this was Matt's first public performance (but don't quote me on that) and he looked nervous. "Nervous enough to forget the words to my own songs" was what he told me afterwards. I think he did a most excellent job. The crew will back me up on this. He won Hoss over with his song about Rock n Rye. The Baron was won over with his cover of Bad Religion's "Sorrow." If anybody there heard the loud bang during "Sorrow," it was the Baron doing canons for the song. Sure he was just hitting the table really loud, but he felt he was adding to the song. Matt's a cool kid and we don't know why he's not in a band. Hmmm....

Next up was Root Beer Chaser. I think these guy's set was like ten minutes long. Seriously, it was super short. I didn't think they were too bad. They did a ska medley of various radio songs that got our non-ska friends singing along. Points for that.

So Root Beer Chaser was followed by Pseudo Strike. This is my second time seeing these guys and I'm really starting to like them. You might not have been able to tell that though if you saw me at the show. I was just kind of standing there watching them. I don't know why that is because they have some really dancable songs. Maybe it's because both times I've seen them, their sound is kind of muddy to me. But even with that, I remember liking a bunch of their songs... like the one about athletes foot, and the new one they played instead of the anti-flag cover, and of course "Skankin' in the Pit," and some others that I don't know the names of. I did dance for "Skankin' in the Pit." Good times. Plus these guys have one of the most energetic front men you'll ever see. I'm sure I'll be seeing these guys again and when I do, I'll be dancing.

Last up were The Hot N Sweatys. Yes they lose points for a crappy name but they make up for it by playing awesome music. These guys are fast becoming my favorite "local" band. I love their music. I definitely get a bit of a Reel Big Fish feel for 'em, but that might be because they do a spot on "Beer" cover. Chuck told me they're going to be recording soon and that has me totally psyched. I can't wait to get a copy of their cd so I can drive around singing along to "Got Laid" and that song about the 80s. Go see 'em. Go see Chuck jump around and exert more energy than anyone else in the band. If you live in another state, have them come play your b-day party. I'm gonna book 'em for mine next year.

This past Saturday, I asked Hoss if he wanted to watch some crappy movies and he agreed. So I gave him my ATM card, car keys and sent him on his way. What he came back with (two hours later) was the Baron, Ocean's 12, and the House of Flying daggers. No crappy movies. I was definitely bummed and bitched about it a lot. Especially since I had to pay for it all and he didn't even listen to me. You might be saying that it's my fault because I didn't go with him. And yes to some extent, I guess I can agree with you. Consider though, that I had worked all day and was sweaty and in need of a shower while he sat around playing FFXI. Plus we talked about what he should rent before he went. We were on the same page and I blame the Baron. Because I can.

Then last night we sat around watching TV. That was weird because I don't really watch TV anymore. It was fun though because I got to be in charge of the remote (for a little bit anyways). We watched the Mighty Ducks which was way more believable when I was younger. And we watched Da Ali G show, which Hoss had never seen before. And Family Guy which is good. And American Dad which I just can't get into and don't know why. And no, I'm not comparing it to Family Guy. And we watched that Dan Band special on Bravo. After Robot Chicken I went up to my room to draw. Yeah, I can't believe you just read about what we watched on television. This was like a really lame livejournal entry. All I need is that little what mood I'm in thing and the one that tells you what I'm listening to. Pfft. Later.

mood: hungry

music: The Mudsharks "She's Leavin' Town"

off the train,
